Embrace the Challenge with High Point Climbing Clubs & Teams

Growing a child’s confidence and perseverance can be a huge benefit of youth sports. For kids that aren’t interested in traditional sports leagues or even those looking for something different for cross-conditioning, joining High Point’s Climbing Clubs & Teams can be a perfect option.

The Adams family has been climbing recreationally for the last ten years and says that the activity has been great both individually and for the family as a whole. Deta Adams says her daughters first started climbing at the High Point location in Chattanooga during long weekends and have continued the hobby through the years. Now that there’s a location in Huntsville, it’s become a family affair that everyone enjoys.

Avery Adams now regularly climbs at the High Point Huntsville location.

Embracing the Challenge

In most sports you’re pushing yourself to be better than your opponent, but in climbing you’re pushing yourself to be the better version of yourself. Adams says as a parent, she loves the coachable moments that happen through climbing. She says that it can be easy to get nervous in the middle of a climb, but you’re learning how to work through the panic and stay calm.

“If they get halfway up and start to get nervous you can coach them through that – help them learn to stay calm and make it to the top. In life there’s not many opportunities where you can coach them through the nerves instead of protecting them, but climbing is a great opportunity for that,” she said.

Now that the Adams have begun climbing as a family, another thing that is a big benefit is that each climber can choose their challenge level.

“It’s great for exercise and I like that the kids are challenged as well. We’ve always done hikes together, but with this they can try to climb higher and be challenged too,” Adams said.

Since she is newer in her climbing journey, Adams says it’s been a special experience getting to not only encourage her daughters to face their fears but have them encourage her as well.

“When I made it up the wall for the first time they were clapping and cheering for me. They’re proud and glad to see me challenge myself. It’s great to just encourage each other and to be able to make fitness important.”

Deta Adams enjoys climbing as a way for the entire family to enjoy a challenge together.

High Point Climbing is for Every Body

Another positive aspect of climbing is the confidence that can be gained. When the High Point Climbing location opened in Huntsville, Deta decided to try her hand and said it’s done wonders for her own body image.

“I think the thing I like about it is that it’s very body positive and strength positive. I can’t go to the gym and be happy for an hour on an elliptical, but I can be here for an hour and half and time flies,” Adams says.

For kids, Adams says High Point Climbing can offer a place to belong and excel no matter their body type.

“You’re really trying to get better as a climber. It takes arm strength, and it takes all your core muscles. It’s not an outside or dirty sport, and it honestly requires a different body type than some of the more typical sports. Some kids excel at it that may not at other sports,” Adams says.
